It’s National Teething Week! Hooray!
Okay, that little bit of excitement used up all of my energy. I’m drained because Pumpkin has decided to ‘celebrate’ National Teething Week by… you guessed it: teething.
You know, I thought it was bad when the front ones came in. But now something’s going on further back and my poor little baby is absolutely miserable.
But, I have something to be thankful for too. Last week, I was invited to an event sponsored by Camilia, a homeopathic treatment for teething. It really was impeccable timing and I learned a lot that I’ve actually used this week.
For example, I was surprised to discover that there are many more signs than pain, drooling and chewing on everything in sight. And, apparently, I’m alone in my lack of knowledge. Camilia carried out a survey and found that 46% of parents don’t know the common symptoms of teething.
Other symptoms include:
- One rosy cheek on the side where the tooth is coming through
- Swollen gums or a white spot on the gums
- Fussiness, especially at night, and wakefulness
- Mild fever
- Runny nose
- Change in eating habits
- Digestive problems
My poor little girl has been suffering with ALL of these symptoms over the last few days, but at least I was armed with lots of new information, as well as advice and tricks for helping her through it (which I’ll cover in another post). It really has made a big difference.
The lovely people at Camilia have also put together an infographic with some interesting facts about teething.
I’m planning a few more posts about the event, what I learned and our own teething experiences over the next few days. So come back tomorrow to see if I’ve actually managed to write something else! 🙂

Blame it on Daddy-man. You were easy. 🙂
It probably is his genes – his teeth are super-sensitive. He’s a good scapegoat anyway. 🙂
That is a great infographic. Grace started teething really early on – and she was one of the first in her class to lose a baby tooth. I think homeopathic treatments are the best. Thank you for linking to #PoCoLo 🙂 x
I figure, whatever works is good with me! Poor little things just don’t understand what’s happening to them. Thanks for the linky!
We’ve been teething for the last 4 months – well it feels constant – and Comma’s had most of the symptoms you have mentioned. If I’m honest, though, he hasn’t needed too much help calming the pain.
Great infographic!

Thanks for the comment! I’m glad your little one has been getting through teething alright so far. A lot of kids, apparently, don’t have too much trouble. Pumpkin did pretty well with her front ones, but I think the molars are trying to push through now and it hasn’t been as easy. Calpol does work wonders though. 🙂
Great post, lord knows all parents battle the teething issues and we feel terrible when our babies are in pain. By the way she is adorable
Thanks. Yes, teething is awful! And the poor little ones just don’t understand why they’re hurting. I might be biased, but I agree she’s adorable. 🙂 Thank you!
