Back in October (yes, October *hangs head in shame*), the wonderful Lisa from Mrs Savage Angel nominated me for the One Lovely Blogger Award. I was very flattered and was all set to write a post about it and nominate a few more bloggers for the honour – but it turns out that while I might be a “lovely” blogger, I’m not a very diligent one. That post kept getting pushed back and I felt awful for not getting around to writing it.
Then, I was nominated two more times by two more fab ladies: Gemma at Blog By Mummy Bio and Becky from Little O and Me. Those nominations both came in December and I’ve still not written it – until now.
I’m so very sorry ladies – if it helps, I actually had a pang of guilt in the middle of Christmas dinner about this. I mean, it didn’t last long and it didn’t stop me from stuffing my face with mashed potatoes and pie. But there was at least some level of inner turmoil about it, even in the middle of the holiday feast.
So, before I go any further, I’d like to send out a big thank you to these three truly lovely bloggers for a nomination that I’m obviously not worthy of. I promise to do better – and I highly recommend their blogs. Follow them on Bloglovin, find them on Twitter or give them some comment love – they definitely deserve it more than I do!
Now, on to the award. First, here’s the shiny badge:
Next, I’m supposed to tell you seven things about myself:
1. Daddy-man and I met online – on a website called OKCupid – back before online dating was really an accepted thing. I’d actually joined the website because a friend and I were bored and we wanted to see how compatible the site thought we were – not very, apparently. Luckily, I had a better score with hubby.
2. I have a tattoo on my lower back. The design is based on the Uffington White Horse and I got it on my 23rd birthday – after my first trip to England. My flatmate at the time, who I’d met in England, paid for half of it as my birthday present and she got a tattoo too. Oddly enough, I’ve never actually seen that white horse in person.
3. My most embarrassing moment was falling off a stage at a veterinary conference – I was there representing veterinary nurses in my region (I had a five-year stint as a vet nurse) and there were probably 500 veterinarians in attendance. Everyone assumed it was because I’d been drinking, but I was 100% sober. Just clumsy.
4. I raced worms as a child. No, really, that’s a thing people do. I spent a couple of summers with my grandparents who lived near Clearlake California and the town has annual worm races. The squiggly beasts that I pulled out of the garden never won any events, but I did get a bright yellow hat for taking part one year.
5. Like most American teenagers, I got my driver’s licence shortly after my 16th birthday – primarily because my mum was tired of shuttling me around. My first car was a little truck – a 1984 Ford Ranger in root beer brown. I kept magnetic poetry on the interior roof and it had a surprisingly amazing sound system.
6. I’ve had a website in some form or another since around 1997. My first site was on Geocities and it was mainly a repository for bad teenage poetry, short stories and animated gifs.
7. When I lived in California, I was really into Renaissance Faires. I miss the fun of dressing up and the friends that I made there – but I don’t miss wearing several layers of warm clothing in the 100+ degrees (F) of the California summer. Also there was the awful dust and resulting “faire boogers”.
Okay. So, the last step of the One Lovely Blog award is to nominate 10 other bloggers.
The only problem is that it seems almost every blogger I follow has already taken part or been nominated. So, I’m just going to give a shout-out to some bloggers who I think are lovely!
- Amanda from Chocolate Pages
- Jenna from Tiny Footsteps
- Vickie from Pocketful of Dandelions
- Mel from Le Coin de Mel
- Kim from Northumberland Mam
- Louise from Little Hearts Big Love
- Em from Brummy Mummy of 2
- Merlinda from PixieDusk
- Katy from What Katy Said
- Mrs Tin Box at Tin Box Traveller

Thank you for the nomination!
Like you I was nominated in December but kept forgetting to write my post. *hangs head in shame* So I really really must do mine now.
Thank you for the lovely mention, don’t feel bad it’s a bit late..life sometimes gets in the way! I live very close to the Uffington white horse and my mum had to walk past there when she was at school! Love the picture of you in your ‘truck’ haha.

Thank you very much for the lovely nomination. I think I have done one of these a while ago, but so nice to be nominated again. Plus, I can look at all the other lovely blogs you have nominated.
Its nice to read more about you too. I find it strange that you can get a drivers licence at 16 in America! It seems so young. Love the photo of your and your little truck 😉
Thank you so much for the mention and lovely to learn a little more about you. Your comment about Geocities brought back memories – I had a Geocities site back in the day too! Love the photo of you on the little truck and racing worms sounds like a nice quirky thing to have done.
Thank you so much for the nomination and I’m glad it’s not just me that has been slow in returning the favour. Ive slapped my own wrists and am working on my post now 🙂 x
Fantastic! I love the worm racing bit & falling off the stage. Great stories!
Lol. I’d forgotten that I’d talked about the worm racing. So odd, isn’t it? 🙂
