I have a confession to make.
Here it goes: I’m lazy and I don’t like cleaning.
I know, I know. This is not something you hear very often in Mummy-Bloggerville, a place where everything is supposed to look Pinterest-perfect and many think that a horribly messy living room equates to a couple dozen Megabloks and handful of stuffed animals spread across the floor.
No, I’m from the bad part of town. A place where there are very few clean surfaces and the kitchen sink is usually full.
And, I’m sorry, but I hate to vacuum.
Don’t get me wrong. I love it when the house is clean. But it’s really only that way when we have guests – and even then, it’s just the rooms where people are likely to go that we thoroughly clean.
(If you ever come to visit, please don’t ask to see our bedroom – that’s where everything that we didn’t know what else to do with got stashed.)
But I really hate to vacuum.
I know this is terribly TERRIBlY lazy of me, but it’s just such a process. Getting the ruddy thing out of the cupboard, plugging it in and pushing it all over the house while avoiding rolling over the cord.
(Geez, I know, first world problems, eh?)
Then you have to find a new outlet because the cable isn’t long enough, and the whole time, the baby is crying because she doesn’t like the sound (probably because it’s so rare that she hears it).
Just when you think you’re done, you have to empty the bags, roll the cord back up and get the stupid thing back in the cupboard.
Ugh. I’m exhausted just thinking about it!
So, when I first heard about the dyson cordless vacuum, I was intrigued. The TV ads made it look simple. SO simple. I was pretty skeptical of the pretty lady vacuuming her already-spotless home and making it look practically effortless. “Well played, marketing department,” I thought.
But then in February when we were visiting my in-laws, we found out they had one. Daddy-man gave it a try and thought it was pretty fab. I was still skeptical, but less so. Also, Pumpkin didn’t cry when it was running, so that was a plus.
I also knew that once my husband set his mind on a new piece of tech – especially something that could make my life easier – it’s not long before we get said object. It was just a matter of time and money.
So, I shouldn’t have been surprised a couple of weeks ago when he popped out for a few minutes and came back with – you guessed it – a dyson digital slim.
He opened up the box, pulled out the vacuum, assembled a few pieces and within five minutes, he was cleaning the floor (it even came charged up).
It would have been faster if the box hadn’t put up so much of a fight.
The digital slim is incredibly light weight. The small head is on a pivoting ball, so it’s easy to get into tight spaces and all the pieces come apart, so you can have a handheld vacuum too, perfect for doing the sofa or stairs. We use it to get crumbs out of the pram seat.
There are also two attachments – a flat, angled piece and a brush. Those are great for skirting boards or really tight spaces.
A full charge provides 20 minutes of vacuum time on low power or eight minutes on max, which is certainly more than enough for our tiny flat.
Charging doesn’t take long and there’s even a wall-mountable docking station that makes charging and storing the vacuum even easier. We just haven’t figured out where to put it yet.
When the dust reservoir is full, it’s easy to empty – just hold it over a bin and push the button on the side. It opens up and everything falls out. Plus, all the filters can be washed with warm soapy water, so there’s no worrying about having to buy new bags or filters.
Like I said, we’ve had this vacuum for a couple of weeks and in that time I’ve fallen in love with it. It has made such a difference to our house. We use it after most meal times, since Pumpkin is still a pretty messy eater and I usually run it through the main parts of the flat once a day.
I’m not saying I’m enjoying cleaning now – and I’m definitely not ready to move to the immaculate side of Mummy-Bloggerville. But, the dust bunnies that used to roll through our flat like tumbleweed in the desert have disappeared, and I even got under the radiators the other day. So: progress.
All in all, I’d definitely recommend the dyson digital slim to anyone as lazy as me who hates vacuuming. And, hey, those of you who like to do cleaning? You weirdos will probably love it too. 🙂

I need a vacuum and I bought a printer instead haha. I like the sound of this one, I’d love a cordless vacuum because that’s one less thing to trip over in a house full of kids, shoes, toys and god knows what! xx
Lol. Too bad you can’t use the printer to vacuum. The cordless aspect is so much more convenient than I expected.
I am not a fan of cleaning but I love when my house is clean! It’s a catch 22. Ur dyson does look cool though!
I wish we could afford a maid service. It’s so nice when the house is clean – but such a hassle to get it clean!
We had something like this before (not dyson) and is sucks (pun intended) that it doesnt do well. We have a massive vacuum at the moment but would look into this when that one gives up with all the sand that we bring home from the beach =) #pocolo
It sucks when your hoover sucks (in a bad way). When got our first Dyson a few years ago, I pretty much vowed to never go back to anything else.
I hate vacuuming! Although, most of our floors are wooden… Not that I like sweeping and mopping any more 🙂 This does look like a really good option! #PoCoLo
Our floors are mostly wooden and this works really well on them. Obvs still have to mop, but it’s good for cleaning up all the dust, crumbs and hair.
