Out and about
Oh my, has it been a busy week! We flew out from the UK on Wednesday for a holiday in America and we’ve been going nonstop since. With a flight to LA, a drive up the California coast and a stop in my hometown in just a few days, we’re now on our way up to see my parents – and looking forward to some downtime when we get there.
The highlight so far has been our trip to the Monterey Bay Aquarium. A full post about that will be coming soon, since I took LOADS of photos. There was also a LOVELY hotel on the central coast – a review will be coming of that too.
This morning, we also met with one of my oldest friends and his wife so they could meet Pumpkin and our kids could play together. It’s was great seeing him, and interesting – there’s no way 17-year-old me would have ever guessed like a day like today would have been in my future.
Fun at home
Before we left, our time at home was a whirlwind of me trying to get work done and making sure everything was packed (I did more laundry on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday than I’ve probably done in the rest of the year put together) – and of course getting Pumpkin as much running-around time as possible, since there was an 11-hour flight in her near future.
As far as home-away-from-homes are concerned, we’ve had some fun swimming at our hotels and we stayed with one of my best friends for a couple of days so Pumpkin had a great time playing with her daughter (and all of her toys!)
Time for me
With the whirlwind of events, there hasn’t been much truly-me time. But, since the entire holiday is to visit my family and friends, I guess the whole thing is me-time. 🙂
My favourite moment was…
Too many to choose from – seeing family and old friends, watching Pumpkin at the aquarium, watching the California coastline whiz past in the car…
Oh, and finally getting into bed after landing in the US. After a two-hour trip through London, a three-hour wait at Heathrow, an 11-hour flight, an hour through customs and immigration, an hour-long shuttle ride from the airport to the hotel, the check-in process and getting food, bed felt AMAZING.
