I’m beginning to think that baby-led weaning would be easier and just as productive if, instead of giving baby her food, I just threw a bowl of vegetables on the ground and then made a bottle for her.
Oh, I should probably smear some food on her face and clothes before handing over the bottle. You know, just to make sure I get the same effect.

Wicked Wednesdays is a weekly linky hosted by Brummy Mummy of Two. It embraces the fact that life doesn’t always look like Pinterest boards and Instagram perfection. “Sometimes our kids look snotty, our meals look bloody horrible and the only view we have is our children fighting in front of Peppa Pig on the TV” – so let’s laugh about it, because the only other option is to cry.
I remember the baby led weaning days, fun and messy 😉
It’s a lot of work, but at least there’s one section of my living room floor that’s very clean! 🙂
hahaha! I don’t miss my two eating like that….So very messy! Great photo x
It’s messy, but fun and cute too. I look forward to when she can feed herself more effectively, but feel bad about it because she’s growing up too fast as it is!
haha, we’re doing puree and that’s just as much mess – especially when she puts her hand in it, or shoves the spoon in her eye! x
LOL! I was feeding her some oatmeal the other day and she got an eye full of it. I thought about taking a photo for #WickedWednesdays, but I had to wipe it off before I could get to my camera, as it seemed to be bothering her.
I did baby-led weaning, but it didn’t have a name way back when. As soon as teeth started showing up, I put bananas, cheerios, green beans, whatever on a tray and let them go at it. I also put the highchair at the dinner table so Brad and Nikki could imitate what they saw. As we ate, they did too. A spoon was optional. If I felt like they weren’t eating enough, I would spoon a bite into their mouths. I found that if they were hungry, they managed to feed themselves. If they weren’t hungry, they played in the food. Babies really are self-monitoring in the amount of food they will eat and for the most part will not overeat. Of course, they ate many more times in a day than I did. Also don’t be tempted to eat what they don’t. It may seem wasteful, but those extra bites can lead to a lot of extra pounds on you. Nikki also liked to chew on slices of raw zucchini. I think it was soothing to her gums when she was teething.
She’s been eating food for a while – even before she had teeth, she would try (and often succeed) at stealing pieces of my banana when I was holding her and not looking. Her favourites now are cucumber and melon fresh from the fridge – I think you’re right with it being soothing to the gums!
LOL! This actually made me snort with laughter! I wish I could say they get less messy as they get older but sadly not.
Oh. They don’t get less messy. Oh. *sad face* 🙂
I love messy BLW photos!! They are awesome!
They’re certainly fun to look at, and I’m sure I’ll be glad I have them in a few years. 🙂
We loved BLW, Sprog still makes a lot of mess but he’ll eat pretty much anything you put in front of him! I learnt to love the playpen so that he could go there for 10 mins after each meal while I tidied.
I love it too, but it sure is messy! The playpen definitely is a lifesaver. 🙂
EEK! Baby led weaning is so hard. When I had my girl (who is only nearly 4) it never existed and we just made purees and it was the dream and then with my boy it was all mess and grime and grub! URGH! Thanks so much for linking up to #wickedwednesdays and I hope to see you next week xxx
It’s so messy and I often don’t think Pumpkin actually eats anything at all. She had great fun with a butternut squash tonight, but I’ve actually reintroduced some purees so she can get used to actual eating too. Thanks for Wicked Wednesdays! It’s my favourite linky. 🙂
